What happens if my car gets damaged?
Report it through the booking as soon as you find it, with photos. The trip's insurance and the handover photos are what the claim is settled from, so document the car at both ends of every trip.
Damage is the situation the whole handover routine exists for. Handled in the right order, it is an administrative matter rather than an argument.
At the moment you find it
- Photograph it — wide enough to show which panel, close enough to show the damage.
- Do not repair it, wash the car, or return it to service yet.
- Open the booking and report the incident. There is a form on it for exactly this.
Report it before the hold expires
A payout is held for 24 hours after the trip. That window exists so that anything found at return can be settled before the money moves. Reporting inside it is significantly simpler than reopening a settled booking.
What the claim is settled from
- Your handover photos from the start of the trip.
- Your photos from the return.
- The rental contract for that booking.
- The messages in the chat.
Which is why photographs at handover — all four corners, the dashboard, the mileage — are not a formality. Without a before, there is no after.
Insurance
Every trip is covered under the insurance shown on the booking, subject to its terms and excess. Support will tell you what applies to your booking and what the next step is once the incident is filed.
Mechanical wear is not damage. A worn clutch or an old battery is the owner's cost, and a claim for one will not succeed.
